This revised and enlarged second edition, issued only months after the first (also in this collection) sold out, rewrites the Historical Survey chapter to credit Tsiolkovsky (1903), Esnault-Pelterie (1907), Goddard (1912), and Oberth (1923) as the field’s founding theorists, and adds a bibliography of books on rockets and astronautics, including Philp’s own. In his preface Philp thanks G. Edward Pendray, President of the American Rocket Society, and Willy Ley (also in this collection), for their criticisms of the first edition.
