A textbook for flying and technical schools and Air Force units, issued by the Ministry of the Armed Forces’ military publishing house (approved for press March 1947), with a tipped-in errata slip. Its six chapters cover general principles and a short history of rocketry, from Chinese fire arrows to Tsiolkovsky; liquid-fuel rocket engines (cycle, nozzle, thrust, efficiencies, propellants); ramjets; turbo-compressor jets; piston-engine-driven jets; and pulsejets, each with its thermal cycle and comparison with the piston engine. Wartime German practice illustrates the text, including the Me-163 rocket fighter with its Walter HWK 109-509 engine, ramjet and flying-wing designs, the V-1 and the V-2.
A 16-item bibliography cites Tsander’s 1932 Problem of Flight, Rynin’s 1929 Rockets and Direct-Reaction Engines, Tsiolkovsky’s selected works, and the Russian translation of Sänger’s Raketenflugtechnik (the translation is also in this catalog).
