Senate hearings before the NASA Authorization Subcommittee on H.R. 10809, appropriating NASA’s fiscal year 1961 budget, held June 30, 1960, with a letter of submittal from NASA Administrator T. Keith Glennan to Senator Stennis dated June 27, 1960, covering material updated from the subcommittee’s 1959 hearings.
Running to more than 1,000 pages, Part 2 compiles technical status reports from NASA program chiefs across seven areas: Space Sciences (atmospheres, ionospheres, energetic particles, lunar exploration), Applications Programs (meteorological and communications satellites, geodesy), Manned Space Flight by George M. Low, Tracking and Data Acquisition, Propulsion (launch vehicles, nuclear and electric rockets), Research Programs (hypersonic and VTOL aircraft, structures, human factors), and the Life Sciences Program, closing with an appendix tabulating U.S. and Soviet satellites, lunar probes, and space probes launched from 1957 through June 1960.
