Articles from The New Yorker about the scientific war effort. Chapters 9 and 10 discuss experiments with V2 weapons in New Mexico and seem to be the first mention of Wernher von Braun by name in the U.S. press as leader of the German group that arrived with Project Paperclip. The White Sands chapter, “V2s Among the Rattlers,” originally appeared as “A Reporter At Large: White Sands” in The New Yorker, July 24, 1948, also in this collection.
