Issued by the Committee on Cultural and Educational Institutions under the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR, Lecture Propaganda Administration, Moscow, 1948. The imprint records that it was approved for printing on 6 April 1948 in an edition of 50,000 copies, printed at Yelets. The epigraph, from N. A. Voznesensky’s report on the 1946–1950 five-year plan, singles out “the development of jet technology” as one of the new fields to be developed.
The short introduction, “Vmesto vstupleniya,” presents the jet engine as a revolution in aviation and notes the propeller-aircraft speed record of 755 km/h against 975 km/h for jets. The sections that follow cover “A New Heat Engine,” the liquid-fuel rocket engine, the turbo-compressor engine and a closing “From Rocket to Rocket.” Bulatov’s From Rocket to Jet Aircraft (1949), a similar popular lecture, is also in this catalog.
