NHB 2330.2 (formerly NPC 510-1), issued December 1965 by the Office of Manned Space Flight’s Program Control division, superseding the fourth edition of NPC 510-1. A companion volume to the Manned Space Flight Program Scheduling and Review Handbook (NHB 2330.1), standardizing the abbreviations and acronyms used in program schedules, arranged in two sections (Alphabetical List by Abbreviation, Alphabetical List by Description). Preface credited to Wm. E. Lilly, Director of Manned Space Flight Program Control, dated November 10, 1965. The introduction sets out the handbook’s ground rules, distinguishing an “abbreviation” (a shortened word or phrase, e.g. ASSY for assembly) from an “acronym” (a coined word from initial letters, e.g. RADAR or NERVA), and giving rules for punctuation, capitalization, hyphenation, pluralization, word form, and the use of slashes (reserved for cases like C/O for checkout, to avoid confusion with “company”).
