NASA News packet issued around the May 24, 1972 signing, in Moscow, of the US/USSR agreement on cooperation in the exploration and use of outer space — the accord, concluded by President Nixon and Soviet Premier Alexei Kosygin, that set the stage for the 1975 Apollo-Soyuz Test Project.
Includes a cover “Note to Editors” (released May 31, 1972), the full text of the agreement (six articles, effective on signature and remaining in force for five years), and companion Release 72-109, “US/USSR Rendezvous and Docking Agreement,” summarizing the parallel April 4-6, 1972 technical meeting in Moscow between NASA Deputy Administrator George M. Low and Academy of Sciences Vice President V. A. Kotelnikov, background on the modified Apollo command/service module and new docking module and on the Soviet Soyuz spacecraft, a mission description for the planned 1975 test docking flight, and a chronology of the four working-level agreements reached since October 1970.
Also includes two NASA technical diagram sheets (M72-6051 and M72-6052, both dated May 23, 1972) illustrating the docking module’s dimensions and its position atop the Saturn IB launch vehicle.
