Subtitled Historical Essays and written for Soviet Army soldiers, sergeants and officers as well as general readers.
Most of the book is about artillery, with the rocket material at its core: nine chapters follow Russian military rockets through the 18th and 19th centuries, including Zasyadko’s rocket designs, Congreve’s “commercial secrets” (a facsimile of his rocket manual is in Catalog E), the Russo-Turkish war of 1828–29, the Crimean War and Caucasus expeditions, K. I. Konstantinov’s electro-ballistic pendulum, and V. V. Nechaev. Rockets used underwater and for coastal defense are also covered. This is the revised and enlarged second edition.
