NASA SP-412, prepared by the Johnson Space Center. Foreword by ASTP Program Director Chester M. Lee and Technical Director Glynn S. Lunney, describing the July 15–24, 1975 mission—the first docking of manned spacecraft from two nations—and noting that beyond the five joint U.S.-U.S.S.R. experiments, the Apollo crew ran 23 unilateral experiments, two of them supplied by the Federal Republic of Germany. Volume I (1977) covers astronomy, Earth atmosphere and gravity field, life sciences, and materials processing across 23 chapters, opening with R. T. Giuli’s summary of scientific results and including the joint Artificial Solar Eclipse experiment (MA-148) co-authored by Soviet scientists G. M. Nikolskiy, A. I. Simonov, and I. S. Kim alongside their American counterparts. Volume II (1979), edited by Farouk El-Baz and Delia M. Warner of the Smithsonian Institution under NASA contract NAS9-13831, is devoted entirely to the Earth Observations and Photography Experiment: eleven vertical stereostrip mapping passes and sixty visual observation targets shot with Hasselblad and Nikon cameras, yielding geological and tectonic studies of Southern California’s San Andreas Fault system, the Red Sea/Levantine Rift zone, the Western Desert of Egypt, southeastern Spain, and South Australia.
