NASA’s report on the Mercury-Redstone 4 flight of Virgil I. “Gus” Grissom, launched July 21 1961, presented as a continuation of the material from the June 6 1961 public conference on Shepard’s MR-3 flight. Seven sections cover Robert Gilruth’s introduction, the spacecraft and flight plan (Jerome Hammack), Grissom’s preflight and postflight medical examination, his inflight physiological responses, a combined flight surgeon’s report for MR-3 and MR-4, inflight pilot performance studies, and Grissom’s own pilot’s flight report. A flight-plan table logs the mission’s timeline from liftoff through the 15:37 splashdown.
