More than fifty Bonestell paintings of the Moon, planets and their satellites, set in four sections of plates and made in consultation with astronomers at Mount Wilson and Palomar. Ley’s text, in four chapters, covers the launch and the rocket ship, the Moon, the solar family and the “vermin of the skies” (asteroids, comets and meteors).
The introduction explains who did what: the text and line drawings are Ley’s, the paintings Bonestell’s, the captions written by both. This is the classic coffee table book that inspired so many careers in aerospace.
