Manned Flight Awareness program brochure distributed to contractor personnel for the April 1972 Apollo 16 mission, part of NASA’s ongoing workforce quality-and-safety campaign (“Successful Missions Result from Quality Performance”). Cover photograph of the crew (John W. Young, commander; Thomas K. Mattingly, command module pilot; Charles M. Duke, Jr., lunar module pilot) in spacesuits, with the Apollo 16 mission patch and an inset of the lunar rover. Interior spread gives brief biographies of all three astronauts and a detailed day-by-day schedule of events from the April 16 launch through the April 27 splashdown, covering translunar insertion, lunar orbit insertion, the three lunar-surface EVAs (Flag Crater, Stone Mountain, North Ray Crater), lunar module liftoff, and trans-Earth injection. Back cover, captioned “Apollo Saturn,” shows an astronaut and rover beside the lunar module with the surface communications relay unit, credited to Manned Flight Awareness, Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, Alabama.
