A companion Grumman training handout to the Electrical Power Subsystem guide above — document no. LSG 770-154-10 – LM-5, also dated May 1969 and approved by the same LM Training office, but prepared by different instructors, and addressed explicitly “for Flight Control Division at MSC, Houston, Texas” — a more specific audience than the EPS guide names, and titled “LM-5” alone rather than “LM-5 & Subsequent.”
Two chapters cover the Lunar Module’s structure and its lunar-surface equipment: Chapter 1 works through the ascent and descent stage structural assemblies, the landing gear’s primary and secondary struts and deployment/downlock mechanism, translunar-flight separation and docking events, thermal control (shielding, blankets, coatings, and panel shingling), micrometeoroid protection, the RCS plume deflector, and the antenna erection mechanisms used during EVA; Chapter 2 covers the descent stage’s Modularized Equipment Stowage Assembly (MESA) and its primary and back-up deployment sequences, the Early Apollo Scientific Experiments Package (EASEP), the S-band erectable antenna, lunar sample-return equipment, the TV camera and tripod, and the Scientific Equipment Bay door and its cable-driven deployment mechanism, illustrated with two large fold-out diagrams.
Like the EPS guide, every diagram in it is drawn from LM-5’s own configuration — the lunar module that flew as Apollo 11’s Eagle two months after this handout was issued.
